Carole Stuart on Cabaret
"Cabaret" to me, very personally as a vocalist, means the opportunity to share wonderful music, to keep it alive and thriving. Cabaret invites me to express my own style and personality in an artistic partnership with the audience that takes us all on a fulfilling emotional journey. In a wider sense, I believe cabaret is a bond among writers, musicians, attendees and venue that has the potential for enchantment. It's a delightful synergy that produces a greater whole from the gathering of its elements. Cabaret means that once upon a time there were thoughts, words, deeds and sounds in a particular intimate corner of the performance world that bore repeating, that spoke to shared feelings and experiences. My own love of music as an only child growing up in Detroit was the background for evolving through college, a move west, marriage and raising a family, dual careers in business and commercial acting, and "suddenly" answering a persistent desire to try this "diversion" five years ago and finding something much more. I'm in awe of being a part of this world. I'm constantly inspired by the history, by my peers, by the wealth of music. Cabaret means we always go home to those places in the heart where everything that came before resides. Cabaret helps us to assimilate, choose and reveal ourselves through music, from all that brought us to this very moment.
