Joanne Tatham on Cabaret
Cabaret is the performance medium that provides the artist with the greatest potential for perfect self-expression. You conceive, produce, promote and perform the work and each decision along the way is an opportunity to communicate who you are and to say what you want to say. I began singing and acting in theater, but found it, somehow, not completely fulfilling. I embarked on a career in public relations, mounting industrial shows, planning corporate parties, and writing published articles about everything from tacos to lipstick to green beans to scotch whisky. But all that creativity was not in service of my personal vision, and so, ultimately, it did not bring the satisfaction I sought. Cabaret is where it all came together for me: the performance of the wonderful music at the core of my being in the context of a script I create to express what I want to say as the host of the best party I could ever give.
